Cardi B sat down with Biden for the September 2020 issue of Elle for the first time on a video call, and immediately Cardi revealed her being starstruck of Joe.

“Oh, snap. Is this real? Hi, Biden, how are you?” Cardi said to start the interview. Biden responded friendly, and after they talked about being full-time parents briefly, he thanked her for her efforts in spreading awareness on the dangers of COVID-19 and why voting is important. Cardi B has always been active on social media with her political commentary and views. She has been vocal about how dangerous the virus has become and the importance of safety for yourself and those around you.

Cardi especially has been vocal about how important voting is. When Swaggy interviewed her earlier in August, she talked about how she felt when her initial pick, Bernie Sanders, dropped out of the election, and why people who showed sympathy he didn’t advance but didn’t even vote upset her. “Ya’ll wasn’t voting! What do you mean why! Cause of ya’ll!” Cardi is very serious about people taking accountability on their right to vote and has been vocal on us all voting to remove President Trump from office.

When asked about her main interest in the upcoming election, Cardi didn’t waste time in expressing her thoughts. She went on record to say:

“I have a whole list of things that I want our next president to do for us. But first, I just want Trump out. His mouth gets us in trouble so much. I don’t want to be lied to—we’re dealing with a pandemic right now, and I just want answers. I want to know when this will be over. I want to go back to my job. But I don’t want someone to lie to me and tell me that it’s okay not to wear a mask, that everything is going to be okay. I want a president to tell me what the steps are for us to get better, to tell me, “This is why it is taking so long, this is why other countries are doing better than ours.” Tell me the truth, the hard-core truth.

“And also what I want is free Medicare. It’s important to have free [healthcare] because look at what is happening right now. Of course, I think we need free college. And I want Black people to stop getting killed and no justice for it. I’m tired of it. I’m sick of it. I just want laws that are fair to Black citizens and that are fair for cops, too. If you kill somebody who doesn’t have a weapon on them, you go to jail. You know what? If I kill somebody, I’ve got to go to jail. You gotta go to jail, too. That’s what I want.”

Biden agreed with Cardi on all of her points, he also stressed on his desire to not only end this pandemic once and for all and spread awareness, but to be able to accomplish equal education for kids all over the country, as well as the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement. “The American people have never, ever, ever let their country down. They’ve been battered by this president and the way he continues to divide [our communities]. He appeals to their prejudice. He spews hate. We’ve gotta stop it.”

If you want to catch the rest of the interview yourself, head over to Elle, or find the transcript in their upcoming September Issue. And lastly, don’t forget to vote people! Don’t let anyone convince you your vote doesn’t matter, it’s in your Bill of Rights for a reason!
